Detonator Cord Winding Machine!
Purpose:
Winding, sealing, clip application, labelling and banding varying lengths of detonator cord. This special purpose machine was
manufactured to strict safety standards required of a leading explosives manufacturer.
The detonator cord winding machine was the conversion, and manufacture, of an imperial machine to a metric version of the same
machine, allowing the customer to have local support and to source off the shelf components locally rather than from overseas.
Solution:
The metric machine was converted and 3D modelled
in Autodesk Inventor
from a set of imperial drawings supplied by
the customer. The project also included the design
and implementation of an additional clip applicator and tube sealing unit.
The manufactured components were, depending on the component, built in house or shopped out due to time, manpower or
equipment constraints. Off the shelf components were sourced, where possible, in Australia
.
The metric machine was fully constructed at our premises, which included mechanical,
control system
, pneumatic and electrical
assembly.
The construction phase was then followed by a testing and fine tuning phase before the machine was shipped to the
customers premises and fully commissioned on-site.
Technology:
The detonator cord winding machine incorporated a multi axis motion controller
, which controlled three
linear actuators
, which interacted with a rotary indexing table
. The Pneumatics ranged from standard cylinders to a
rodless linear actuator
. The machine was controlled by a PLC
and interfaced via a WinXP Embedded touch screen HMI.
